Getting appropriate mental health care can help you learn the coping strategies to overcome many of life’s challenges. If you’re looking for a therapist in Massachusetts, it can be beneficial to consider online treatment. Barriers to care, including a lack of in-person providers or transportation issues, can make finding in-person treatment challenging. An online platform like BetterHelp can make therapy more convenient and flexible.
BetterHelp has been offering online therapy for over a decade and allows you to work with a licensed clinical social worker, licensed therapist, or licensed psychologist from the comfort of your home at a time that works for your schedule. Plus, you can change providers at any time until you find one with whom you have a supportive therapeutic relationship. While BetterHelp does not currently provide group therapy, it does offer Christian and pastoral counseling for those who would like to integrate their faith into their sessions.
Whether you need support with anger management or help managing the symptoms of a mental health condition, online therapy can help. If you’re looking for an online therapist, MA has many providers who are experienced with counseling psychology and licensed to provide telehealth services across the state. Deborah Gromack
Hello! My name is Deborah Gromack. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and am licensed to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. I am also a nationally board-certified Music Therapist. I attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and received my Bachelor of Science degree in Developmental Psychology in 1988. During that time, I was a research assistant and worked on studies examining the relationship between mothers and their infants. After receiving my degree, I worked as a teacher within the public school system and as a civil rights and fair housing advocate and helped to start a HUD funded organization which promoted fair housing practices. During one of the organization's multi-cultural music benefits, I was moved by the music's power to bring people of different social, economic and cultural backgrounds together. I wanted to do this kind of wonderful work on my own, but I didn't know that I could and so I didn't believe that I could. Soon after, I received a brochure about Music Therapy in the mail and became intrigued and so I began to research the profession. I discovered that Music Therapy was an established health profession in which music is used within a therapeutic relationship to address physical, emotional, cognitive and social needs of individuals (musictherapy.org/AMTA, 5/22/20). I decided to enroll in a Master's degree program in Expressive Therapies with a concentration in Music Therapy at Lesley University. During my training as a Music Therapist, I worked with children who were diagnosed with developmental delays, children who were war refugees, older adults who were dealing with health issues and issues around aging, and older adults diagnosed with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia. I graduated with my Master's degree in Expressive Therapies with a concentration in Music Therapy from Lesley University in 1998. My education qualified me to take the exams for both Licensed Mental Health Counselor and board-certified Music Therapist and I've been certified in both since 1998. Since that time, I have worked as a Music Therapist, Expressive Arts Therapist and Licensed Mental Health Counselor with older adults and adults diagnosed with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia, Children and Adults diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders, Children and Adults with various developmental delays. In my practice as a Mental Health Counselor, I have worked with children, young adults and adults who are dealing with a variety of issues ranging from depression, anxiety, family issues, to major life changes and trauma. It has been my experience that the expressive or creative arts therapies provide a person with a 'safe container' for thoughts and emotions which are difficult to hold and express. Music, art, poetry, theatre, storytelling and writing help us to clarity and to express those things which are difficult to express in any other way. My clinical orientation is as a client-centered therapist. In seeking out help, you are taking an important step in advocating for yourself. I believe that you, the client, are the one who directs the therapeutic relationship. I fully acknowledge that seeking therapy is a powerful action and that it requires trust. You are opening yourself up to being seen and heard within a relationship with another person. You are the one who decides to take this step and it is important to acknowledge this. I've told you a bit about myself because I have come to learn, both personally and professionally, that the stories which we tell influence our thoughts, our feelings, beliefs, intentions and actions in the world. Our stories shape our reality, they define where we are at. My clear intention is to meet you exactly where you are at and to offer help to you using the creative arts to assist you and it is entirely up to you if we decide to use them. Please contact me if you are interested in working with me. I look forward to hearing from you! Sincerely, Deborah Gromack, M.A., MT-BC, LMHC

Dr. Lula Drewes
It is only in our darkest hours. that we may discover the true strength of the brilliant light within ourselves that can never, ever, be dimmed. Doe Zantamata I am a Clinical Psychologist with a Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN, licensed in the state of Massachusetts (MA 4422) and Berlin, Germany. I have extensive experience in clinical practice, consulting, and teaching, and am also licensed as a Wellness coach. Most of the people I have encountered in my work are in some of their “darkest hours.” The main goal of my clinical practice has been to assist them in discovering and developing strengths which help rekindle the light within themselves. I have had the privilege of developing warm, trusting, active and successful working relationships with many people over the years. After many years of work as a Clinical Psychologist, I continue to have a strong passion for this work which allows me to experience up close amazing human journeys from darkness to light, and to bear witness to the ingenuity, resilience, creativity, strength, and power of people. My professional career has involved work with a wide diversity of individuals and groups across the age span and in a variety of environments; including private practice, family counseling, mental health facilities, and academic institutions, such as the University of Erlangen, Germany Mental Hospital, the Veteran’s Hospital Mental Health Unit, Nashville, TN, McLean Hospital, Belmont, MA, the Boston University Overseas Program in Germany, Harvard University, Cambridge, MA, the Alice Solomon Technical University, Berlin, Germany, the Center for Continuing Education and Professional Development, Lexington, KY, and the US Army Health Clinic, Schweinfurt, Germany. My specialties include anxiety, depression, stress and crisis management, trauma treatment, and multi-cultural issues. While I draw from a variety of evidence-based therapeutic approaches, cognitive-behavioral and mindfulness theory and practices are central to my work. I am certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). In addition to my clinical work, I regularly conduct seminars and workshops, addressing topics such as cognitive-behavioral psychology, coping strategies for foreigners in Germany, stress and anger management, Mindfulness, and Mental Health education. My passion for Mental Health education and promoting holistic well-being extends to my role as a writer and founder of Reach Well, an innovative Wellness program designed to empower individuals in their personal and professional lives. I seek to establish with each client a safe, kind, respectful and accepting atmosphere in which we can hopefully build a trusting, collaborative, and supportive working relationship. The unique needs, desires, personality, personal styles, and preferences of clients provide central guidelines for my clinical decisions and interventions. However, my aim with each client to take them on a journey of healing and strength building which will: (1) reduce current emotional distress and maladaptive patterns, and (2) promote future mental health and well-being through increases in self-awareness, self-care, knowledge, coping skills, and resilience. Native to Kentucky, I am the mother of two children and fluent in French and German languages. I have been a life-long active participant in both national and international service initiatives as evidenced by my volunteer work with the Red Cross Disaster Mental Health Service, immigrant populations, and my prior role as a Peace Corps Volunteer, Tchad, Africa. Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
Some of the most commonly asked questions about therapy can be found in the section below.
How much does a therapist cost?
Mental health professionals can differ in price. Forbes found that the average cost of in-person therapy in the US is around $100 to $200 per hour. Pricing can also vary based on your location.
BetterHelp offers payment plans of $60 to $90 per session, charged monthly in a lump sum. You can also take advantage of this pricing on one of BetterHelp's sister platforms, like ReGain for couples or TeenCounseling for teens aged 13 to 19.
Many therapists may be upfront about their pricing and whether or not they take health insurance from the beginning. Additionally, some in your area may offer a sliding scale plan to allow those with lower incomes to pay less for therapy. However, services online can often save individuals a few hundred dollars per month.
When should I get a therapist in Massachusetts?
Mental health services and mental health providers may help you navigate various concerns. You do not need a diagnosis or condition to attend therapy; You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general advice. A counselor may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.
Mental health issues don't always present as a crisis. Many professionals provide talk therapy and support for life transitions, skills learning, relationship problems, or life coaching. Online therapy sessions can allow clients seeking therapy to experience professional help through video, phone, or live chat sessions without commuting to an office.
Does insurance cover the cost of therapy?
Different counseling services can vary in cost. Therapists must apply to accept insurance through insurance companies, which may take time and money, so not every therapist offers services through insurance. If you cannot find a therapist that accepts your plan, BetterHelp may be cheaper than visiting an in-person therapist.
Is online therapy the safe option?
Online therapy through BetterHelp and its sister platforms is safe. Therapists are licensed, experienced, and vetted before being contracted with the platform. If you experience any concerns with your therapist, you change your counselor through the platform or app at any time.
